To become a vibrant and dynamic company: Thoughts behind our logo

Uchigen Co.,Ltd.
To become a vibrant and dynamic company
In the early 20th century, the whole of Japan was filled with energy as the country strived to catch up with and surpass the Western countries. Genji Uchiyama left his hometown and spent about 10 years training as a paint merchant in Osaka and Tokyo before founding Uchiyama Toryoten (Paint Shop) in August 1938. In 1948, he established Genji Uchiyama Shoten Co., Ltd. ahead of neighboring companies. Our business expanded nationwide and overseas.

In 1993, we celebrated our 60th anniversary. We officially adopted the nickname "Uchigen," which has been familiar to our customers since our founding, as our company name, and renewed our determination to make further strides as a global company. To commemorate this departure, we had created the Uchigen logo, which remains to this day.

It was developed by graphic designer Ikko Tanaka, an artist representative of Japan. He is a leading figure in Japanese design culture, known for his work going back to the medals for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and the exhibition design for the Japanese Government Pavilion No. 1 at the 1970 Osaka World Expo, as well as more recently for the brand designs of the Seibu Saison Group and MUJI.
It is said that he accepted the job due to a connection formed with Reiko Uchiyama, wife of the second-generation president, Hiroyuki Uchiyama, when she was an art student.

At the time, our desire to brighten up all of Japan spread globally, and Uchigen, which was originally a paint specialist trading company, has significantly expanded its business fields as a global solution provider.

Uchigen will continue to walk forward in a new era with the passion for growth embodied in this symbol and the desire to brighten the world.

About Our Logo

When creating the logo of the Genji Uchiyama Shoten, the basic concept was the color appropriate for a paint specialist trading company that is headquartered in Hamamatsu and spreads throughout Japan, and the dynamic molding.
Using the initial of Uchigen Co., Ltd., which is the new company name, and the initial of Color, we created an organic curve.
Uchigen Co., Ltd. is growing higher and higher towards the 21st century, and its bold colors are designed to have a strong presence while also having a flexible and elegant side. We have also decided on the logo color to be a vibrant "red," and hope that this new symbol of Uchigen will be loved by many people.
